You are told the number before anything starts.
Every matter is quoted as a fixed fee against defined stages. The figure does not move unless the scope of the enquiry itself moves — and then only with your agreement, in advance.
How the fee is arrived at
There is no single price for an HMRC matter, because a nudge letter and a multi-year investigation are not the same piece of work.
We read the letter
Free, and before any engagement. We confirm what it is and what deadline applies.
We scope the work
Which stages the matter needs, and what deliberately sits outside them.
We quote in writing
A fixed fee with the stages set out. You decide with the number in front of you.
Fixed-fee representation from
£1,200 + VAT
The starting point for representation through a compliance check. Specialist investigations, disclosures and appeals are scoped and quoted individually.
What we do not do
- Bill by the hour, so a long enquiry does not become an open-ended invoice
- Start work before you have accepted a written quotation
- Charge for identifying which letter you have received
- Add scope without telling you and agreeing the fee first
- Take on a matter that belongs with specialist counsel
Common questions
What does the fixed fee include?
The stages agreed at the outset: reviewing the letter and the underlying position, drafting and issuing each response, and managing correspondence with HMRC to the point agreed in the engagement. Anything outside that scope is quoted separately before it is started.
What happens if the enquiry widens?
If HMRC extends the matter beyond the scope we quoted for, we tell you before doing further work and agree a revised fixed fee. You are never billed for additional scope you have not agreed to.
Do you charge to identify the letter?
No. Establishing which letter has arrived and confirming the deadline it carries is done before any engagement and at no cost.
Why not charge by the hour?
Because hourly billing puts our interest and yours on opposite sides. An enquiry that runs long costs us more under a fixed fee and costs you more under an hourly one. We would rather the incentive sat with resolving it.
Can I pay in instalments?
Fees are structured around defined stages and the engagement letter sets out when each becomes payable. If instalments would help, raise it when the quotation is issued.

Send a photo of page one of the letter. We will identify it and come back with what a fixed fee would look like.
